UPDATE Cryptic finally released a standalone patch. Go here for more details. Hopefully this should fix all the patching problems…for now.

I don’t understand exactly how, but I’m finally online. I know I said I was done with the idiotic patching for today, but I saw a post in the mmorpg.com forums and I figured it [...]

Champions Online: Open beta patching nightmare
Posted in Champions Online, MMORPG, tagged beta, Champions Online, open beta, patch on August 17, 2009 | 9 Comments »
Well, okay. Calling it a nightmare is an exaggeration, but it’s really starting to get on my nerves. I’ve been in a bunch of betas and early access programs, so you’d think I’d get used to it. Nope. It still feels like some weird form of self-inflicted torture. I keep thinking to myself, “I paid [...]

Because Mythic is not supporting an official forums, I’ve been using the VN Boards and Warhammer Alliance forums to keep up-to-date on news. Here is a list of more forums. Official statements about server status and various updates can be found at the Warhammer Online Herald (an official Mythic website).
Mythic posted a status report regarding [...]
Warhammer Online: My 2nd day of open beta was annoying

I’ve decided to stop playing the open beta. I’m not enjoying the experience because it’s just so generic. Bugs and various issues are starting to annoy me. At the moment, I’m hoping when the game goes live, I’ll be able to level past all the newbie content quickly and I’ll discover that WAR has more [...]

First, a couple disclaimers. I only played to level 4 on a few characters. I also realize that the game is still a ‘beta’ version.
Overall First Impressions
Surprisingly, WAR is exactly how I imagined it would be. Unfortunately, that is not a good thing. For MMORPG veterans (especially WoW), the low level experience is incredibly cookie [...]
Epic ending to the Age of Conan open beta: Sign of things to come…

To celebrate the ending of the open beta, Funcom raised everyone’s level to 20 and moved them to their respective home cities. If that wasn’t enough, they fully enabled the PvP settings on every open beta server. Free-for-all PvP everywhere except in the cities!
As anyone with a bit of experience with PvP servers knows, this [...]
Age of Conan’s open beta: disaster or work in progress?
Posted in Age of Conan, tagged Age of Conan, AoC, open beta on May 7, 2008 | Leave a Comment »
Anyone remotely interested in Age of Conan has probably heard by now about the ‘disaster’ that is the open beta. With the crazy competitive MMORPG market and critical fans, it seems near impossible to please anyone. Fanboys and critics are analyzing (over-analyzing?) everything Funcom does. Unfortunately for Funcom, it’s the negative conclusions that [...]
