I haven’t committed myself to playing Aion for one reason: the massive, crazy experience grind after level 25 or so. I know that I will never have the patience to grind the countless monsters required to reach level 50.
That’s why this Massively.com post has me really excited. The Korean version recently received a new patch to their Test servers that dramatically increased quest experience. Massively guesstimates an average 500% increase and points out that one level 44 quest changed from granting “13,300 to 703,820 experience (53 times as much)”.
It’s on the Korean Test server, so this is not a guaranteed change. It’s also possible that it might not make it to the western servers, but I think it’s very likely. NCsoft should be well aware that western players are far less tolerant of grinding monsters.
When (if) these changes make it to the North American servers, I will take Aion seriously and invest some major hours. Until then, I’m happy with casually playing CO and Aion and focusing more on single player games. I’ve been neglecting my Xbox 360…I haven’t even turned it on in the last few months.

Yes, please let that be true. I have just managed to get to 20 on my Sorc and 10 on a few others. I am normally a rather good leveler but not this time. Just dragging my butt around slowly. That would make this game much much better exspecially if you happen to have altitess.
If you like the PvP/Abyss/Rift system, then leveling probably gets more entertaining after level 20? 25?
I’m having massive problems picking a class. So I’m just playing a little of each one and basically leveling at snail’s pace. It gets really boring redoing the same content multiple times.
I’m tempted to go with my initial choice because with this patch, Spiritmaster pets can also fly. Currently, SM pets can’t fly and seems like they despawn really easily. This patch probably solves a lot of the issues.
Same problem here but I am sticking with one. I am not going to ruin a game by running the first ten levels a dozen times until I hate the game.
I have read good things about SM’s in PVP if the pets fly. SM’s get a fear and some DOT’s that seems good. I found the pets to be annoying this time around. (Pets do despawn and you need to resummon everytime you fly) just a few complaints I have read in general chat as of late.
I have also heard goodthings about Rangers in PVP. That while they seem weak at first they start to shine around 25.
Considering a ranged Character IMHO seems prudent when flying will be involved. I dont know first hand but it just seems logical.
I am sure Assassins do what they do and that is catch you off guard and destroy you but in a game you cant have it all.
Sorc still going strong in AION did some groups and that helped. I kind of wish I could run damage meters though.
BTW have you had a look at Dragon Age: Origins? I played never winter nights and baldurs gate and this I guess is the same story line? Looks pretty decent so far. BIOware also is a great company.
I’ve played all of Bioware’s major releases and I’ll definitely be playing Dragon Age the moment it gets released. I expect it will be another great, immersive, role playing experience.
If it’s up to usual Bioware quality, I’ll probably play it multiple times. I’ve played Mass Effect, KOTOR and NWN so many times. I think I played KOTOR at least 5 times now.
I’ve heard all the same things about the various Aion class as you have. Each class does have their own pros and cons.
Spiritmaster pets do fly now. I lose them sometimes but usually they keep up. A couple times I was surprised it was still there.
